At The Perk, we believe that great leadership isn’t born—it’s built. And during our latest Culture Community event, “Be the Guide: Mastering the 3 Essential Leadership Mindsets,” we gathered passionate professionals & curious minds to explore what it really takes to lead with intention in today’s world.

Whether you’re a team lead, senior executive, or simply someone who cares deeply about leadership & culture, mastering your mindset is the first step to becoming a truly transformational leader.

Let’s break it down.

Why Mindset Matters for Leadership

Mindset is more than a buzzword—it’s the foundation for how we think, feel, & act. It’s what determines whether we approach challenges with resilience or resistance.

🔍 According to research, your mindset plays a significant role in shaping the outcomes of your life & leadership. The way you think impacts your feelings, which drive your actions, & ultimately influence your results.

That’s where one of our favorite tools comes in…

The Thought Model: A Leader’s Secret Weapon

At The Perk, we use a tool rooted in cognitive behavioral psychology called the Thought Model.

When you shift your thoughts, you can shift everything that follows.

💡 Example: Given a new project? Instead of thinking, “I don’t have time,” try “I may not know how yet, but I’m confident I can figure it out.”

That simple switch? It changes your emotional state & drives better outcomes.

The 3 Essential Leadership Mindsets

We dove deep into three transformative leadership mindsets: Growth, Guide, & Who.

1. The Growth Mindset

Leaders with a growth mindset see challenges as opportunities. They’re open to feedback, willing to fail forward, & committed to continuous improvement.

2. The Guide Mindset

Leaders often fall into the trap of being the hero—the fixer, the solver, the one with the answers. But real leadership comes from being the guide. In order to truly empower your team, you have to let go of being the one that swoops in & instead be strategic about what support your team needs to they can be the ones to solve the problem, try a new solution, or make the big decision.

3. The Who Mindset

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by doing it all yourself, it’s time to delegate. A who mindset focuses on finding the right people—not solving every problem solo.

✅ Ask:

  • “Who already knows how to do this?”

  • “Who can help me move this forward?”

  • “Who might grow from taking this on?”

This mindset reduces burnout & builds a culture of collaboration & trust.

Why These Mindsets Are So Powerful (Especially Together)

Each mindset—growth, guide, & who—is powerful on its own, but when used together, they create a leadership superpower.

You:

  • See problems as possibilities (growth)

  • Empower others (guide)

  • Build collaborative momentum (who)

It’s not about doing more—it’s about thinking differently.

Take Action: What Will You Commit To?

Before you close this tab, ask yourself:

👉 What’s one challenge you’re facing right now?

👉 Which mindset—growth, guide, or who—will help you navigate it better?

👉 What mantra or thought will you choose to move forward?
