If you’ve ever been tasked with organizing a workshop, then you have definitely googled the question-

“What are some team icebreaker games that don’t stink?”

When you put in all the time & effort to bring everyone together for a workshop, you want to make sure you create an environment that people enjoy being at &, dare I say it, have some FUN while they learn something new!

Here are 5 ideas to help you make your next team workshop unforgettable!

1. Get People Moving!

Incorporate an icebreaker game that gets people up & moving! In many of our workshops, the M&M game helps us with that. We give everyone a small bag of M&Ms and tell them to walk around the room, find a person, pull out a M&M & answer the question we have preassigned to that color M&M. For example, if they pull a blue M&M they have to answer, “How would you explain your job to a 5-year-old?” and if they pull out a red M&M they share “What’s something you’re celebrating right now?” Check out our fun branded M&Ms to add another element to this game! Here are some great examples of questions you can use for this game!

2. Friendly competition!

Does your team like a little competition? So do we! A fun team building activity we add to workshops is Crack the Code game. With this activity we break the large group into small groups of 2-3 to solve the puzzle. You can even do this game virtually with breakout rooms! It’s a great way to get the energy in the room back up after lunch before you dive back into the workshop content.

3. Make it fun!

Another game we love is the Lego game! This is a great activity to get people moving around the room & brings to light some of the challenges that can arise when communicating with other people! The goal is to use the pile of Legos in front of you to re-create the same Lego diagram your teammate has outside of the room just through verbal instructions. Some questions we love diving into after finishing this exercise is “What helped you communicate more clearly during this activity?”, “What was challenging?”, “How does this relate to communicating at work with your team?”

Tip: play The Final Countdown on a speaker during the game and watch everyone really get into the game!

4. Shake things up!

Shake things up & move the training offsite! If you are looking for people to step out of their day-to-day routine & gain new perspectives or different learnings, start with a new space! When selecting a space, ask yourself “How do we want people to feel during this workshop?” & “What does success look like to us for this workshop?” There are so many fun, free coworking spaces that have popped up since the pandemic that you should take advantage of!

5. Make it Personable!

Lastly, don’t forget to give your workshop some personality! What does your team absolutely love? What represents your brand well? Some of our clients love sweets & make sure they have a dessert bar well stocked for a little afternoon treat. Do you have a group that loves to relax over a glass of wine? Plan your workshop later in the day so you can end with a happy hour! What does The Perk like to do? We always make sure our tables are covered with confetti, Perk journals for taking notes, & fun stickers about topics we cover in the workshop!
